What does botulinum toxin do?

Commonly called Botox, botulinum toxin treatment temporarily reduces the activity of selected muscles. It may be considered for movement-related lines on the forehead, between the brows or around the eyes. Not every wrinkle is caused by muscle movement.

An individual treatment plan

Facial expression, brow and eyelid position, muscle strength and previous procedures all matter. Discuss the expression you want to preserve. Mention pregnancy or breastfeeding, neuromuscular conditions, medicines and previous reactions during the assessment.

Effect and review

The effect develops over days rather than appearing immediately. Duration varies with the product, area and individual response and is not permanent. A review can assess movement and symmetry. The same dose or repeat schedule is not appropriate for everyone.

Possible side effects

Injection-site discomfort, bruising, headache and temporary asymmetry may occur. Unwanted effects on nearby muscles can include eyelid drooping. Generalised weakness or difficulty swallowing or breathing requires urgent medical attention. Your aftercare should be explained individually.

Frequently asked questions

Is it interchangeable with filler?

No. Fillers address volume or contour, while botulinum toxin acts on muscle activity.

Will the result last forever?

No. Effects are temporary, and decisions about repeating treatment depend on your response.
