What are dermal fillers?
Fillers are injectable products used for volume or contour support in selected areas. Hyaluronic acid is one option, but fillers are not all the same. Planning should consider facial anatomy alongside your goals.
Product and area selection
Lips, cheeks and other areas have different anatomical risks. Provide the names, dates and locations of any previous fillers. Not every hollow needs filling, and laxity or other concerns may need another approach. Product choice involves more than the quantity injected.
Results and follow-up
Early swelling and bruising can temporarily distort the appearance. Assessment after recovery is more useful. Duration varies by product, area and individual factors. Agree on review arrangements and whom to contact if a problem arises before undergoing treatment.
Important risks
Infection, nodules, asymmetry and delayed reactions can occur. Injection affecting a blood vessel can cause tissue damage and, rarely, vision loss. Severe pain, blanching or dusky skin, or any visual change requires immediate medical attention rather than waiting for a routine review.
Frequently asked questions
Are fillers the same as Botox?
No. Fillers support volume or contour; botulinum toxin acts on muscle activity.
Can every filler be dissolved?
No. Dissolving may be considered for some hyaluronic acid fillers, but not all products can be reversed in the same way.
