What is fractional laser resurfacing?
Fractional treatment targets microscopic areas rather than treating the entire skin surface uniformly. Ablative and non-ablative systems affect tissue differently. The term therefore does not identify a single device or a fixed recovery time.
Which concerns can be assessed?
Selected acne or surgical scars, fine lines and texture changes may be considered. Depressed, raised and tethered scars need different plans. The aim is improvement rather than guaranteed erasure, and active acne needs its own assessment.
Planning treatment
Discuss skin tone, recent sun exposure, cold sores, medicines and previous procedures. Explain how much recovery time you can accommodate. Anaesthesia, skin care and follow-up depend on the chosen device and intensity. Do not stop prescribed medicines without medical advice.
Recovery and risks
Redness, swelling, peeling or crusting can occur. Infection, cold-sore reactivation, pigment changes and scarring are possible. Gentle care and sun protection matter during recovery. Improvement can develop over time, so the appearance immediately after treatment does not determine the final outcome.
Frequently asked questions
Are all fractional lasers the same?
No. Ablative and non-ablative devices differ in tissue effects and recovery requirements.
Can one session erase all scars?
No. Depending on scar type, several sessions or a combination of methods may be considered.
