What is an Nd:YAG laser?
Nd:YAG is a laser type commonly associated with a 1064 nm wavelength. Its long-pulsed and Q-switched modes have different purposes. The name alone therefore does not tell you which treatment will be appropriate.
What concerns can be assessed?
Long-pulsed systems may be considered for selected visible vessels and unwanted hair. Q-switched systems have different pigment targets. Vessel depth, hair characteristics and skin tone influence selection, and not every vessel or hair type responds equally.
Planning your treatment
The consultation establishes the cause and treatment area. Discuss previous laser sessions, tanning, medicines and any history of pigment changes or scarring. Test-area assessment, cooling and eye protection may be part of planning. Skin response helps determine session spacing.
Recovery and safety
Redness, swelling and tenderness may occur. Burns, blisters, pigment changes and scarring remain possible. Being an option for some darker skin types does not make the treatment automatically suitable for everyone. Follow the agreed sun-protection and review plan.
Frequently asked questions
Is Nd:YAG the same as Q-switched?
Nd:YAG describes the laser medium; Q-switched describes a pulse mode. Both can apply to the same device.
Will treatment happen at the first visit?
Assessment comes first. Skin condition or a need for further investigation may mean scheduling treatment later.
